Short answer
Yes. Cambridge residents can apply online for payday loans of $100 to $1,500 from Ontario-licensed lenders, usually funded by Interac e-Transfer. Ontario’s rules apply: the cost is capped at $14 per $100, a loan can be no more than half your net pay, and you have two business days to cancel. Ontario Works in Cambridge is delivered by the Region of Waterloo, which can help with emergency costs.
How payday loans work in Cambridge
Cambridge residents apply online with Ontario-licensed lenders and receive funds by Interac e-Transfer. The city’s large vehicle assembly plant and its many suppliers and warehouses mean lots of shift work and overtime-driven pay. Electricity here is now supplied by GrandBridge Energy, formed when Energy+ merged with Brantford Power.
What’s different about borrowing in Cambridge
Overtime-heavy pay. If overtime makes up a big part of your cheque, borrow against your base pay. Overtime can disappear with a production change.
Supplier plant shutdowns. Parts suppliers follow the assembly plant’s schedule. A shutdown there can mean a short cheque for you.
Utility changes. If you used to pay Energy+, your account is now with GrandBridge Energy. LEAP and OESP still apply.
A Hespeler example
Dev works at a parts supplier, paid every two weeks. His base take-home is $1,280, but overtime often pushes it to $1,600. He uses the base figure, so his limit is $640, and borrows $350 for a dental bill. The most it can cost is $49.
An illustration with an invented borrower. Your limit and cost depend on your own pay and lender.
