About Jessica’s House: who we are and how we’re paid

Jessica’s House started from a simple belief: someone who needs a few hundred dollars before payday deserves the same clear information as anyone sitting across from a bank manager. That’s still the job.

Reviewed November 2026 by the Jessica’s House editorial team against federal and provincial lending rules. About 4 minutes to read.

Short answer

Jessica’s House is a Canadian service, founded in 2014, that matches borrowers with provincially licensed lenders and publishes plain-language guides to borrowing costs and rights. We aren’t a lender. The service is free to borrowers, and lending partners may pay us when we help arrange a loan.

What we do

We do two things. We help Canadians apply for payday, personal and car loans from lenders licensed where they live, through one secure application. And we publish guides that explain, without spin, what those loans cost, what the law protects, and when you’d be better off not borrowing at all.

Why the name

Money decisions in most homes happen in one room, with the bills spread out and a calculator nearby. The name is a nod to that room, and to the idea that this site should feel like a sensible friend sitting across from you. Look closely at the logo, and you’ll see the door is shaped like a J.

How our guides are written and reviewed

Our guides are written by our own team in Canada and checked against primary sources: the Criminal Code and the federal Criminal Interest Rate Regulations, each province’s payday loan legislation and regulator guidance, and the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada. Every guide carries its review date. The federal cap change on January 1, 2025 is a good example: we rewrote each page it touched and noted the change.

We don’t publish customer reviews or testimonials, because we can’t independently verify them, and we never will invent them.

How we’re paid

Using Jessica’s House is free. When we help arrange a loan, our lending partners may pay us a fee. That fee never changes the legal maximum cost of your loan, and it doesn’t change what we write. Our guides recommend free and cheaper options on nearly every page, even when that means you don’t borrow.

Who we work with

Payday and personal loan applications are sent to our lending partner network, which matches you with licensed lenders. Car loan requests go to our auto financing partner, which works with lenders and dealerships across Canada. See our privacy policy for exactly what we share and why.

What we believe

  • You should see the cost in dollars before you share any personal information
  • Fewer loans can be a good outcome
  • Licensed lenders only, in your province
  • Your data is yours. We never sell it to marketing lists
  • Mistakes get corrected, in public

The cost first, then the decision
